Let me see your PEACOCK!

So while I was sitting with a friend of mine, mussing over what topic to do for my next blog, she began to moan about not having any makeup to accent her new peacock hair piece. And that is what led me to do a peacock tutorial.

Begin with the gold primer, shown in step one in the previous blog.  After this, apply a shimmery yellow-gold shaddow over your entire lid and brow bone, such as MAC's "Gorgeous Gold."

After that, apply a deep green to your outer corner and crease of your lid, such as MAC's "Humid."

Next is the liner. For this particular eye, don't be afraid to have a thicker line on top for your liner, because you want the color to stand our. For this look, I used a purple pencil liner called "Rock Star" by Urban Decay.

Next focus on your lashes.
We want long and thick here, so I looked to Tarte's amazing and eco-friendly/hypo allergenic mascara's.  First use their lash Primer to enhance lash length and volume.  Next use the "Lights, Camera, Lashes!" mascara to coat your lashes to make them look longer than ever.
<Here you can choose for the look to be done, but I went a step further and added some false lashes with a thick wing out, in order to create a bird like effect.

For the lashes I used Benefit's Debutante lashes.  These lashes are a bit pricy ($15) but they've lasted me a while and still haven't gunked up or fallen apart like lashes I've used in the past.

The peacock eye is extremely vivid in colors, and i wouldn't reccomend this as a day look, but an out on the town eye.

Good luck with the look, and stay tuned for a Hunger Games themed entry!Stay Gorgeous!

Emily

Dangerous Doll

Recently I was invited to a decade party and I've been brainstorming ideas ever since.  Truth be told, I've always felt like someone from a different time, so this seemed like a perfect opportunity to channel my inner self.  What I came up with was a 60's pinup girl.

This makeup has some clothing inspiration as well, but that will come in at the end.  To start off, powder the hell out of your face.  Make it a pristine canvas because the intensity of the makeup will bring out EVERY flaw. Start with a primer of your choice all over the lid. For this look, I used Urban Decay's Greed since it gives off a golden effect to the shadow.

When your done with this, you're ready to start with a dark black liquid liner, such as too faced to begin. Draw out the eye in a severe wing.  The reason I do the liner first with this technique is because it has to be perfect so it's easier to make mistakes without messing up the shadow itself.
To make sure you have perfect lines, use a thin brow brush and a black shaddow, such as the sephora one shown in the products below, to smooth out any imperfections.

After the liner is dry, you're ready to start with your shadows. Cover the lid and brow bone with a very glittery off white shadow such as "Virgin" by Urban Decay.  The crease color is up to you, but based on my outfit, I chose a burnt red, also by Urban Decay called,"Gash." Now the last thing with your eyes is Mascara. This may be the trickiest since the mascara I'm recommending is for a more practiced hand, but if you have a bit of patience, you'll be able to pull this off. It's a Benefit mascara called "They're Real" and it's the best for giving lashes a boost in all directions.  Start using the brush in the typical manner that you would coat your lashes but pull the entire way from base to tip to make sure each lash gets coated.  Next, use the tip that has extra fibers to pull each individual lash up, especially making sure your outer lashes are pulled outward.

The eyes are officially finished and now your ready to move onto the rest of the face!  For a quick red lip that isn't costly, pick up some maybelline color sensational in YOUR red, since everyone has a different shade that suits their skin tone. (I used Red revival here).  Make sure to line your lips first with a simple neutral tone so that your lips look perfect.

I used a stage makeup red since it's what I had lying around.  After you're done with these steps the rest is up to you. I colored over my monroe with a black liner to finish off my look as well as adding a bit of blush to the apples of my cheeks.

For the hairstyle, I went with a simple side bun and a bump, blowing my bangs to the side.  This look is fun and flirty, and perfect if you ever get invited to a decade party ;]. Stay Gorgeous!

Emily

p.s. for the more affordable version of the shadows, I would recommend using Maybeline's shadows, since these colors are adaptable to your personal style. As for the liner and mascara, a good liner that uses felt tip is Maybeline stiletto liner in very black, and Loreal volume collagen for the mascara.

February Fun

In lieu of this short and erratically weathered month, I wanted to introduce a nifty little winter trend I'd picked up. Everyday that I work I notice the new makeup trends just because of people I see. This month, I wanted to introduce something a little different. Something to take your eyes off of the inevitable dryness that is happening to them due to the cold. I start out with the suggestion of ladies, moisturize for goodness sakes. Your skin is your temple. Treat it wisely. I'm personally a huge fan of the Dr. Weil collection but if you don't have a rich aunt like me who's willing to shell out a few hundred bucks on skin care products around the holidays, then Aveeno spf 15daily moisturizer should do the trick. Once you let the set and have applied foundation, start your eyes. I always use a eye primer like Nyx before since it adds durability to your look (since if your like me, you don't have the time to fix your makeup throughout the day after it's on!). Next I use my nifty little kit I have from too faced which is pretty marvelous year round. It's called the Romantic Eye pallet and though it's a wedding day pallet, I use it religiously. This month has been all about the "Fashion" colors mixed with the "Classic" colors. I start off with the "Bouquet Toss" and sweep it all over my eye and brow bone area. I use a Mac brush to do this but any old shadow brush'll do.  Then I put "Cut the Cake" over the center of my eyelid and sweep it out either direction a bit. It's light so it's just adding a little somin' somin' to your eyes. Next I use "First Dance" in the crease of my eyed and blend it out so that I don't look like my eye sockets are sinking in. The last thing I do is apply Urban Decay "Skyscraper" mascara to my eyes to finish them off. The overall look is gorgeous but very natural so you look your best even when the weathers at it's worst. Now, these products can run a bit pricey, so if you're looking for similar colors for the shadows, you'll need a light matte cream for the base, and Loreal's H.I.P "Charisma" duo should do the trick for the purple hues. The mascara can be a bit trickier but look for anything, such as Maybelline Stiletto, that's giving you length over volume. Remember, make-up is only half of the battle. You make you beautiful! Stay Gorgeous.

Emily

Hello there!

Eyes are frequently referred to as the gateway to the soul. If so, you want to play them up.  This blog acts as a gateway to some of my  personal experiences with eye makeup techniques and products. I wanted to write this to make use of all of the money I've spent on worthless junk and on my favorite products.  My love and obsession with make-up, but particularly the eyes, stems from my art interest. I had taken many art classes in high school and was going to go to school for it but I realized I wanted to write more than I wanted to sit in a room all day stressed out over a painting I would never feel was truly finished. Any who,  around the tenth grade I started to play around with shadows I stole from my sister's room.  After a while I realized that being an art student had given me a steady hand and voila! I had the potential to do my own makeup for prom and not cringe when I looked at myself in the mirror! The reason I focus on the eyes is just because I've been obsessed with the unique patterns and colors of eyes for as long as I can remember and I'm always amazed at how different techniques can make one person's eyes look larger and another's smaller. This interest took root as something I actually consider myself as decent at in my sophomore year when I needed an art class and I saw stage makeup was an option. The class gave me the ability to apply zombie makeup and make myself look old but it also taught me why some people's eye's look smaller and some larger with the same technique.  After that I've continued to hone my skills on others as well as being introduced to newly released products. This blog will talk about bad products I've used, in detail not just 'it's bad', more affordable versions of name brand's as well as talk about techniques I love to use. To me makeup is a part of fashion so every now and then my blog might mention a favorite fashion trend that will go along with a great new eye technique or maybe even a new lip trend that would accent it well. Alright, time to get back to my busy college life!
SEE you around soon=]
